Fire Prevention Night is Saturday, October 31

Bring the kids, see the trucks. From 5 to 8 p.m. the bay doors are open: climb on Engine 1, try the hose with a firefighter, pick up free smoke-alarm batteries and an escape-plan sheet at the table, and finish with cider, doughnuts and trunk-or-treat in the back lot. Costumes welcome on both sides of the hose. Rain or shine; the trucks don't mind.

Leaf-burning season opens: permits required

From October 1 through May, open burning in the Hollow needs a permit from the department. They're free; call the station. Leaves and brush only, in a pile you can step around, never when the wind is up, water within reach, and someone watching until it's cold. Check the banner at the top of this site before you light anything: when it says no burning, it means today.

Tanker shuttle drill with Pine Run and Stony Creek

Three departments, four tankers and a portable pond on Quarry Lane. The goal is a steady 500 gallons a minute at a fire two miles from the nearest pond, which is what a house on Ridge Road needs. We held it for forty minutes. Thanks to the quarry for the water and the neighbors for the patience.

Four new members start Firefighter I this fall

Two of them had never been inside a fire station before the open house. The class runs evenings and weekends through February, and the department pays for it. If that sounds like something you could do, the next class starts in the spring.
